What is it like to have a divided heart? To daily walk the narrow path between the green fields of the earth and the cloud-filled sky of heaven? To savor two worlds, neither one yet embracing the other?
That path is neither straight nor easy. It is strewn with the rocks of doubt and of desire. At unforeseen points it tricks you so the eyes of your heart are momentarily blinded and you either stumble into the warm, caressing mud of the earth or the fall into the euphoric righteousness of heaven. In doing so you savor the bliss of either, forgetting where you came from and where you are going, merely content to revel in the moment.
Yet the ways of the earth are not beneath your feet and the stars of heaven are not above your head. The union of both resides within you, for you are both of the earth and of the stars. You were born of the breath of Love and you are Love made manifest. You choose to savor the delights of the created earth while soaring in the freedom of heaven. Both are within you for neither is a stranger to the other.
To think that you are of only one or the either is to forget who you are. You are not meant to be of this earth, delightfully sensual though it may be. It appeals to only to your ego, that which is called forth to serve and protect you while enjoy the earth-fruit of delight. And you are also not meant to long for heaven, turning your back on the earth and ignoring the work of ever-changing creation. For as you do so, you are also turning your back on the Creator.
Rather, let earth and heaven enfold each other in your heart. Know that you are of both for both are merely two faces of the same One. Their dichotomy exists only in the duality of the ego. Their union lives eternally in your heart.
Forget not who you are as you walk the narrow way. Know you are of One that this truth may illumine your path. And in doing so you will find that this path you journey on divides not heaven and earth but is really a Light-filled highway to eternal joy today.
